  • How to create a user onboarding process?

User onboarding starts from registration and ends with the moment you are sure that your users are well-educated about the features and functionalities of your product. An excellent user onboarding experience demonstrates the purpose of your product, and the way your customers should use it, and covers the value it adds to the lives of those who learn to use it. In order to achieve this, you should create a user onboarding process that covers the following steps, and make sure that they are well-developed: 1. Sign-up process 2. Welcome email 3. Initial log-in 4. Integrations and user data 5. Walkthrough tours 6. Follow-up emails What else is there? Share your thoughts.

I was looking into onboarding trends because it was a highly demanded searched keyword. Following are a few interesting resources I curated that I believe will answer your questions: 1. State of SaaS Onboarding 2022 Report - here, you will find all the different ways others are doing it. It will give you statistics to help you in decision-making - https://bit.ly/3Ui5jKJ 2. SaaS User Onboarding Funnel 101 - this one will teach you how to craft an onboarding funnel - https://bit.ly/3gYRwdI 3. The last one overview the onboarding process and gives an in-depth walkthrough of 8 great onboarding experiences - https://bit.ly/3TVIfBz There are some more that we have curated on Knowledgehunt, but I believe those 3 will give you all the answers.

I highly recommend starting with two frameworks: empathy map and user journey map. While from a product standpoint, we have our ideas on what users NEED to know to be successful in our own product, we might miss out on understanding what users CARE about when they're considering our tool.

@gracehur Great point! It's so important to think about what users need AND care about. I especially like the idea of using empathy maps and user journey maps to help get into the minds of our users. I'm going to start using those in my own work now! Thanks for the suggestion!

@gracehur great advice. It's such an easy trap to fall into thinking you know what a new user needs to do and ignore what they may truely care about and be the real 'ah ha' moment for them.

@stevenbirchall Yes! it's such a humbling thought exercise too. If allow ourself to admit that we don't know everything, then we can open our eyes to seeing where some of the friction points are for the users.
