Social media trends (AI, Web3 for example) may not particularly be bad, but they sure are crazy enough to distract you from your ongoing works. Can you share your strategy to stay focused and beat the FOMO caused by online trends?

Keep written objectives that are worth your full energy, a well defined plan and daily tasks to get you there. In time you can discipline yourself to stick to them. Having them written helps a lot. I use txt files and VS Code to manage them

@luciantartea I just writing things down on a whiteboard. It's true that everything you write stays with you for a longer time. Revisiting stuff you wrote from time to time is a good idea. Well said, Lucian.

In my opinion, one way to address the FOMO is by consistently working on improving our skills.

Instead of comparing yourself to others on social media, focus on your own goals and accomplishments. Celebrate your own successes and remember that everyone's journey is unique.

I can relate to this, I have started blocking my time of spending on social media. This mentally puts me to leave it as the time finishes.

Have learned to move past it now. Be happy with what I have

@divya14 I'm learning it the hard way I think. Thanks for sharing.

Opportunities abound Rahul. Never fear missing out on anything. I use social media to stay uptodate on trends, gather knowledge I can use in my business and projects, find special techniques and approaches, and learn about interesting people.

@anwar_b_ Sounds like the thoughts of a focused person. Thank you for the inspiration, Anwar. :)

I just take the motto that slow and steady wins the race. Don't get too caught up in all the new AI trends basically, despite working on an AI app myself haha

@richard_gao2 That's very well said, Richard. Going crazy about trends is something we can always avoid, but taking advantage of them to grow ourselves is the real indie-hacker mindset. Good luck with the app!

Struggle because I follow people selling online courses at a high price ... and sometimes they convince me. What about you @c99rahul ?
    Rahul
Hi @devezehugo! I have drastically reduced my social media time just to focus on the projects at hand and my main work. About avoiding overspending on courses, I think if I really need a course like that, I don't pay for a course if something similar is already there on FreeCodeCamp. It helps me.

Finding a balance between staying updated and maintaining focus is crucial. However, when fear starts to distract me during work hours, I find it helpful to write down all the thoughts and fears that come to mind. This practice helps to clear my mind and prevent unnecessary overthinking, as the human mind tends to do.

Interesting! Going even one step further, how do you get away from that same FOMO when your work is around social media? (thinking of builders and startups that are starting their outreach and community building)

Unfortunately, FOMO deals with me these days...
