I like when the name has the main feature product keyword. It is easier to explain to early adopters.

@maiconrcf Yes, we also named our product Zapmail for that same reason.
You need a) unique enough so you come up on the 1st page of googling and b) easy enough to remember so people can type it without looking at your biz card.
So we have created a list what we think is good and then test it ourselves and on our friends

@volcohara Agreed 💯
Finding a name for a startup is always a fun process. Having gone through it several times with my previous startups, it's usually a long list of lame and stupid names... then it hits you. In my case, usually when I see it it resonates with me immediately.
My latest startup, Cliezen is made up from the words Client and Kaizen = Cliezen. As the company is helping B2B companies understand their client experience and satisfaction, making small changes to their companies to better meet the needs and expectations of clients (hence Kaizen = meaning the Japanese lean management methodology of "continuous improvement", to make small gradual changes to improve processes and business.
So, a lot of hidden meaning behind it and always fun when I have a meeting with someone that gets the combination of words (happens more often than I would have thought!).

@marksachintha To be honest I have only used it to brain storm names for some opensource projects. But I feel it generates a lot of ideas etc. like Steve Jobs said: Creativity is just connecting things ✨

@sentry_co Yes, it's a great tool, love what it does.
Zapmail : Slack as an email service
@sentry_co Yeah I love the fact that most names are unique, unlike most other naming apps
That wasn’t easy! In fact, I built an MVP faster than came up with naming :)
We tried ChatGPT 4th model to seek help with that, however, all of the options were quite boring, and domain names were taken which couldn’t be checked with GPT
However, someday we just realized that we help people build web pages with AI. That’s why we’re Paige now :)

@nikita_naumov That's a nice name👌🏼
l00kin
@marksachintha It's a great question!
Tbh, I do not remember clearly how it's come to my mind, but I wanted something playful and unique and we came up with l00kin, where zeros replaced with the eyes emoji and the last letter is missing as it sounds in a speech. Lately, we figure out that eyes amplify the name 😇

@marksachintha thank you Mark 🙂
I'm a long time fan of Douglas Adam's novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
There was an AI android named Marvin - who was so good at predicting things into the future by quintillions calculations with universe's best algorithm loaded inside.
I really like its personality - calm, calculative, helpful and best at what it's supposed to do.
So when I launched my first startup - I named it after him - Marvin XR :-)

@swapratim_roy That's probably the best story I heard here 👌🏼
@marksachintha thanks my friend
As an iPAAS we thought about names that reflected us being the last visible layer a developer needs to interact with. This lead us towards thinking about the light spectrum, and we chose “Violet” since it’s the last color you see at one end of the spectrum. Coincidentally, the “violet.io” domain had just gone up for sale that same week we landed on the name so it felt like it was meant to be.
Zapmail : Slack as an email service
@rhenzabel Thats awesome, glad you were able to get the domain as well
We built Namify.tech to solve exactly this problem. It not only suggests meaningful names that are actually usable, but also shows domain, social username and trademark availability for each brand name suggestion. Saves makers a crazy amount of time

@namrata_arya Just tried out the product. Wish I knew it before.
@marksachintha You can use it for your next big idea :)
This time...Just chat gpt and google search.

Workverse Virtual Workspace
Interesting question. I explained my idea to ChatGPT and asked for name suggestions! Then I streamlined to about 4 options, bought domains for all 4 options and ended up going with the one that felt cooler and less prone to mistype.

@adebayo_mustafa That's nice, how did you get ChatGPT to come up with unique names? Every time I tried it give existing names.
Workverse Virtual Workspace
@marksachintha yes it does suggest some existing names, you have to mash up keywords here and there
Our name comes from the whatsapp group we had before creating the startup. Our idea was to create an B2B app for team leaders that would enable them to focus on people over process. I named the whatsapp group Pop, short for people over process.
We brainstormed for our "real name" for a few sessions and didn't like anything we came up with so we thought what about pop and saw that pop.work was free as a domain.
That's how we became Popwork 😅

@johann_molinari That's a nice story. Those names you put without overthinks eventually ends up working the best
We actually used a blend - combining 2 words (coin & hall) into a single one (Coinhall) so that it's more searchable ✨
Naming Taskade was a fun coffee-fueled brainstorm with my co-founders. We were sketching ideas for an app that turns big to-do lists into manageable tasks. The idea of cascading tasks kept coming up, and from there, the name "Taskade", a mashup of "task" and "cascade", just clicked. It felt right as it captured the essence of breaking down tasks in a flowing, organized way.
Cheers to more flowing tasks!
