Founders and fund-raisers, is it wise to launch an open/public BETA of a product here?

Question

We are launching the public BETA for our product later this month and would love to have some feedback from people who have done this before. Should we wait for our actual launch to launch on Product hunt or are there consequences to "launching" a public BETA? What pitfalls would you warn against?

What's the downside of doing it?

If anything you'll gain some early adopters here.

Why not? You can also launch your full version in a new launch (if it's significantly different to your beta).

I think PH is for more polished products. At least if you want a top spot. Depends a bit on the product of course. There are other sites to build traction for beta products tho. I can send you a list of 313 other places if you want. Ill add it in the reply if needed.
