First time launching a product on PH, so need help from the community! π
What are the "Not to Do" mistakes people make while hunting?
Is there a checklist of those pointers?
Thanks in advance! π

Letting spammers take over your produthunt launch comment fields. π every launch has so much comment spam its getting ridiculous. Genuine comments only please π cc @rrhoover

Product Hunt
@asifjamil Report them. So much LLM growth hackers atm. Making generic comments, having no interest in the launches / makers or PH. Just them selfs. And who ever they growth hack for.....but when you report one, 3 more will show up the next day π so it's a loosing game until @rrhoover gets back from his vacation π¬

The most important step is to build a community around your product first. That is where true power lies :) Not much can go wrong if you have a support from community!
Hear, hear!
@asifjamil thanks, I am indeed. Thanks for mentioning.
I don't have any tips to share, so best of luck for the launch!!!
Thanks a lot, @zaved_sadek_chowdhury!
not engaging with the community around prior the launch. You can't toss a product and just expect that a community will magically grow around!
True that, @krizia_silvestri
Any tips on how elaborate/far back the plan should go for engaging?
Or just the usual, regular stuff?

Not engaging with the community beforehand. I made so many connections in the month leading up to my launch and they really made all the difference.
PH community is here to strenghten your product and not create a community so you should absolutely have a community beforehand!

Do not spam Slack channels on launch day, create a conversation and relationship days before. I learned the hard way. Bad me.

@jessiesanchez what happened? Care to share?
storly.ai
@heyjoshua I was just being a big ol' spammer. Messaging people online in the early AM without creating a relationship. This is why I mentioned to create the relationship first. We aren't bots :)
I'll definitely keep that in mind, @jessiesanchez π
A few common ones that come to mind:
Lack of market research: You need to understand who your customer is and what they want.
Poor timing: Launching at the wrong time can kill even the best products.
Ignoring feedback: Users are your best critics. Listen to them!
Insightful pointers, @phylliscolemand π
Can you elaborate on the second one, please?
Poor timing as in too early/too late in the product lifecycle?
Or do you mean the time of the day?

awesome to see you gearing up for your first launch! it's a thrilling experience. here's a handful of common mistakes to steer clear of:
1. launching too early or too late: ensure you have a solid mvp but don't wait for absolute perfection either. finding that sweet spot is key.
2. underestimating the power of a compelling story: people connect with narratives. your product's journey, your personal motivation, your vision - these are compelling hooks.
3. forgetting about timezone: product hunt resets at 12am pacific time. launching early in the day can give you an edge.
4. lack of community engagement: engage with people who comment on your post, answer questions, share insights, be appreciative of their interest.
5. not mobilizing your network: let your email list, social media followers, friends and family know about the launch. ask for their support.
6. neglecting visuals: a captivating image, video, or gif can increase clicks and piques curiosity.
7. not optimizing your landing page: ensure it's ready for the increased traffic. it should succinctly communicate the problem, solution, and call to action.
8. overpromising and underdelivering: be honest about your product's current capabilities. it's better to surprise with unexpected features than disappoint with unmet promises.
and, every launch is a learning experience. it's okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. good luck with your launch! π
