[ChangeLog] December 11 — Leaderboard redesign, mobile @-mentions

Featured
45

👉 @-mentions now have autocomplete on mobile —Tag your friends to bring them in on the conversation!

👉 New launch-day dashboard for makers with social link tracking — Track your points and ranking over the course of the day and see which social posts are bringing you the most support.

👉 Redesigned leaderboard with points — The leaderboard now displays points, which are based primarily on upvotes with comments as an additional factor. Points determine the ranking. In the past we’ve displayed upvotes, which are only one component of the ranking, and this caused lots of confusion (”Why is my launch ranked lower than a launch with fewer upvotes?”).

👉 Renamed "Topics" to Launch Tags" to be more descriptive — We have two main taxonomies at Product Hunt. Launch Tags are topical tags like AI, Productivity, iOS app, Open Source, Audio that are relevant for launches. Your product hub (which contains all your launches) belongs to one or more Product Categories. These are organized by use case, to help people find the best product for them. E.g. Code review tools, AI databases, SEO tools.∫

Good updates, Rajiv! We missed the changelog. 😊 I really like the new launch-day dashboard with the improved analytics. Many PH Makers used to visit Hunted(dot)space to track and compare launch graphs, so it's great to see graph comparisons integrated natively into the PH launch-day dashboard itself. Two quick questions: 1. I noticed the verified profiles feature. Will there be an open verification process soon, or is it currently limited to PH staff only? 2. Do you have any insights into how upvotes translate into points? I also noticed that all products on the leaderboard start with 50 points instead of 0 or 1. Thanks for sharing these updates!

@rohanrecommends Verified accounts will be rolled out to all users early in 2025.

I launched a month ago and got over 800 upvotes. Now I only have 193 points. That's 4 times less than upvotes and my community is very upset. Why is there such a big difference? Can you recalculate?
Karl Mechkin
@gorns Same here, but on a smaller scale. We have 100 upvotes but only 60 points. I've also noticed that many comments dissapeared and I'm not sure if people just delete them or is it some technical issue.

@gorns @karl_mechkin or maybe they were removed because the anti-spam algo killed them?
Karl Mechkin
@chrismessina Some of them probably, but some comments that dissapeared were well structured and on point.

Thanks for sharing the updates! Can we access the list of launch tags somewhere available before creating new launch?

Finally! Glad to see the clarification around "Launch Tags" vs "Topics". Still needs refinement, but a welcome improvement. Please expand the social link tracking to include Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Very curious to see how points will work for amplifying the actually best products...!

Thanks for sharing this! @rajiv_ayyangar The post-launch dashboard is a great addition! So is the differentiation of points and upvotes. The UI changes need to be made still.

Mention on mobile - until now, I kept trying and thought it was a bug.

What about mentions within posts? Are they on roadmap?

Also - am I the only one with iOS app missing the home page?

Thanks for sharing the update, Rajiv! These changes seem like thoughtful improvements to enhance both maker and community experiences. The mobile @-mentions autocomplete is such a welcome addition—tagging on the go is going to feel way smoother now. The new launch-day dashboard is a game-changer. Real-time social tracking will help makers fine-tune their outreach strategies, which is super handy on a high-stakes day like a launch. The leaderboard redesign is also a smart move—clarifying rankings with points instead of just upvotes eliminates so much confusion and makes the system more transparent. Renaming “Topics” to “Launch Tags” also feels spot-on—it’s clearer and helps differentiate between tags and broader categories, especially for those new to the platform. Loving the evolution of Product Hunt! These tweaks really show how much thought goes into supporting makers and creating a better community vibe. Excited to see how these updates play out during the next big launch!

Redoing the whole categorization system is not good! I can't find or sort nearly as well. Why change a working system?

Great features and these would definitely improve the user experience. Thanks for sharing

Hey there! The leaderboard redesign sounds like a cool update. It’s about time it got a fresh look, right? And adding mobile @-mentions is super handy. No more waiting to get back to my computer to tag someone. These changes should make the community feel more connected and interactive. Looking forward to checking them out!

Hey there! The leaderboard got a fresh new look on Dec 11, making it easier to see who's crushing the game. And now you can use @-mentions on mobile too, which is super handy for tagging friends. These changes make the platform more user-friendly overall.

I'm a Full Stack engineer and I think Launch Tags is the most popular in this era.

Oh, that’s pretty cool! The leaderboard redesign must make it more fun to compete with friends. And mobile @-mentions will definitely help us tag people more easily. It’s about time they updated these features. Can’t wait to try them out! Hope they fixed some bugs too.
