I was inspired by this HN thread (https://news.ycombinator.com/ite...) so I gave myself an hour deadline to build this small project. Literally registered the domain right away and ended up taking about 2 hours from first commit to last commit (https://github.com/imkevinxu/yes...) because of some bugs and I wanted to add pagination and hard-linking to the direct story (ah feature creep!)
Ideally this would also have PH-like upvoting but decided that that would take too much time. Overall I love hearing about the nitty-gritty details of how other people live and I'd also recommend book "Daily Rituals" about the daily habits of creators throughout history
@imkevinxu cool idea and 2-hour project! I have a personal app that send me an email everyday asking what I did. I reply and then have a searchable archive. Been doing it for a few years and it's come in handy. Maybe this could evolve into something like that?
@tectonic it's interesting how people are using it, I wanted it to be used more for hour-by-hour breakdowns of people's day like this http://whatdyoudoyesterday.com/s... so I could read about the more mundane details of peoples' days like their morning routine or their commute or what happens after work not the highlights
Two things I learned:
- Anonymity is a cruel beast. Lots of inappropriate content immediately posted and with no profiles or reporting, the only defense is manually deleting stuff from the backend. Setting the tone with the first couple of stories wasn't enough
- Naming is important. In hindsight a better name might've been "What's Your Day Like?" (whatsyourdaylike.com is still available)
I made something similar a few years ago and called it BarConfessions. It's an anonymous message board for people to spill their guts and tell stories (mostly inappropriate) :) It's still up at www.barconfessions.com
