Refrigeration systems work much better for this application – including chill rooms and cold rooms – where people won't be expected to stay in the space but may come in and out. The reverse of this is that people might think air conditioning can be used for cooling food.
Air conditioning and refrigeration uses this point of refrigeration theory by causing refrigerant to cool and condense in the condensing unit. One way to think of it is that the heat that the refrigerant absorbed in the evaporator or "heat sponge" area is squeezed out of the refrigerant in the condenser.
In refrigeration, there is a transfer of thermal energy from a place at a cold temperature to a place at a higher temperature. In AC, thermal energy is taken away to keep the air at a cool temperature. The refrigeration parts include a compressor, condenser, and evaporator in one unit.
