@erezroso depends, so our units come with up to 16TB of storage (50TB with our next updates) that's more storage than most small businesses need. Most of our customers are from that space - though we sometimes have teams in larger businesses (e.g. BMW) that use it to be independent in running their teams communication and collaboration work. Backups are super easy to do and are available in three flavors:
- local USB
- remote encrypted
- synced to another Protonet box somewhere
since you don't need any maintenance on our devices and you can access them just like a cloud on someone elses datacenter you don't really feel a difference. We're still working on power failures and redundant connectivity and they'll be seamlessly integrated as soon as they're ready.
Finally when you do the ROI on our solution it really is a competitive alternative.
Really confused by the use of "Cloud" in the tagline and product. If it's a device that's in your office and it burns down you lose all your data right? You have to worry about backups, offsite backups, etc? If remote employees are in the mix they have to VPN to your private network first?
@mbuckbee If you're a developer you'll get root access to your box (linux) and can build your own backup. However we do offer remote backups as a service and the standard feature set includes backup on external hard drives.
@mbuckbee Almost everything is http based (except Samba file server and Timemachine) - people can easily access it from the remote via http (WebDav is also supported).
@christopherblum@mbuckbee if you can access it remotely doesn't that mean you are now responsible for your own security? If yes, why would me and my team be better at security then a properly cloud based company?
@mbesto@christopherblum@mbuckbee We designed this to be secure in terms of what you can access - from the outside it's only accessible via https and we regular updates and third party pen tests. Obviously there is no 100% security but just by the decentralised aspect of our product it would need someone to want to actually target your company specifically. In terms of usability / security we see more of a parallel with what Apple does with iPhones - it's possible to build things that are secure and private by default.
