I've been using this on my homescreen for a very long time. I have added a custom link to my reminder app, show my local weather and have a custom extension to show my Google Fit Steps
Pros:There are now multiple custom extensions you can add to it
Cons:Date/time could be more customisable - relies on the way Android shows the time
