I use Discord for so many things - not the least of which is a channel with my teenage twins to share memes. They prefer Discord to texting, so it's our main digital communication tool. But I take classes and my school has multiple channels by theme and by major. It rivals Reddit in terms of information sharing and beats FB & Tw for social media.
