Hi all! Super excited to share Vlip with you all today. Why did we build this? I’ve lived in 4 different countries and traveled to over 40. Along the journey, finding accurate and up-to-date information has always been a challenge. I wanted to create a platform for people like me to capture and share authentic snippets of their local areas for travelers who can then learn about the areas much more easily. I believe that these snippets of everyday life can become authentic information about a place for others around the world. What problem are we solving? There are two main problems we are trying to solve. 1. People spend a lot of time finding accurate and up-to-date information about places, often relying on image- and text-based content that can be subjective and misleading. Many travelers have shared that social media often sets unrealistic or misaligned expectations, negatively impacting their experience when visiting places. 2. Users are increasingly disillusioned with existing social media platforms, where 10% of users post ~90% of the content, often showcasing high-quality or curated lifestyles. Many feel reluctant to post for fear of misrepresentation or embarrassment, or they simply decide not to post because their pictures are not "fancy" or high-quality enough. How are we solving the problem? 1. Users can upload or watch short-form videos (up to 15 seconds) of places with location tags. This helps people find comprehensive, real-time information about places, such as restaurants, capturing the vibe, food, atmosphere, and crowd in one go. 2. All videos are deleted automatically after 30 days. This ensures that every video you see on Vlip is always up-to-date, at least within the last month. 3. Users can only upload raw and unedited videos taken on the spot. This prevents the uploading of old or edited videos, ensuring authenticity and real-time representation. We are doing this for one more reason - we want to make our users feel more comfortable sharing their genuine experiences by intentionally lowering the bar for content quality. 4. Vlip is an anonymous platform. Users can share content without worrying about social judgment from their personal network. That said, we also maintain strict content guidelines to keep our platform clean and safe. How does Vlip work? 🌍 Navigate through our home feed to watch videos of different places around the world with location tags. 🔍 Use our “Explore” feature to find videos or places on our map. 📹 Upload a video of the place you are at and share it with the world. 🤝 Follow other users and interact with them. We are offering promotions too! This is our first time offering promotions publicly! If you decide to join Vlip and upload your first video by the end of June 16th PDT, you will get a $5 Amazon gift card. Please message me directly with the email you used to sign up and code VLIP5AGC. Please share feedback with us! We'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions about Vlip. Please share feedback, questions, and comments. Our team will be around all day and is looking forward to hearing from you! Download Vlip today and share your first snippet! We can't wait to see your experiences.

Good idea! 👏 Every time I travel, I have to search on YouTube for videos related to that location. The idea of Vlip aggregating videos related to locations is really great! I want to know if the videos aggregated by Vlip can only be uploaded by users on Vlip, or will there also be videos from YouTube?
Harris Yoon
@zenda1122 Thank you Zenda! We will only have videos uploaded by users on Vlip - we don't fetch videos from any other platforms like YouTube.
Zenda
@harris_yoon OK, I got it! It really is necessary to guide users to upload more videos
Harris Yoon
@zenda1122 That is correct :) We are also working on different ways to encourage users to upload videos, including gamification (such as rewards or badges), notifications to feature or recommend users' videos to boost engagement, and a video archive that users can use for various purposes, such as creating itineraries to share with others or making a journal of the places they've visited.
