Build a stronger, more effective team by celebrating top contributors with fun awards, small perks, or bonuses to keep your remote team engaged and motivated. Unicorn Train integrates with your team’s favorite collaboration tools such as Slack and GitHub.
Hi there 👋
I'm the founder and solo dev of Unicorn Train, thanks for checking it out!
I've been working on remote dev teams for over 10+ years and have faced the challenges of building a strong remote team culture. In my last company, our remote team of 40+ designers, developers, and support members tried everything to foster a culture that was fun, engaging, encouraging and motivating. To accomplish this, we found the ingredients needed to include:
- Public praise for teammates shared for everyone to see. Not hidden in an HR portal that no one logs into.
- Fun prizes and incentives to be periodically awarded to top contributors. But fairly distributed so it's not a popularity contest.
- Team rituals and recognition that feels authentic. Instead of top-down feedback from managers, let your team decide who the real contributors are.
Unicorn Train aims to combine the best of these elements to unlock the secret to building a high-performance culture for your remote team.

Looking at this for my DevOps team. Could use more information on the web site on how to use it, from a manager's perspective. Do I add a list of rewards somewhere that the weekly winner will get? How do I introduce this to my team? Does it automatically add any user in a Slack channel that I add the bot to or do I need to manually add users? Or does it automatically add every single Slack user? How about a guide for managers and a Getting Started guide because, unless I'm missing something, your wedsite doesn't give the whole story. And if I AM missing something, the web site is allowing me to miss something.
@chrisszl Thanks so much for the feedback, Chris!
You can choose the prizes and awards to be included in each prize draw, which is completely up to you. This could range from a single award to several different prizes for 1st, 2nd, etc. You can also make them recurring prizes, which is handy for frequent weekly draws. The draws can also be set to biweekly, monthly, or quarterly.
After signing up, you can connect your team's Slack account. You'll have the option to automatically send invitations to every team member in your account, as well as the option for Unicorn Train to join your public channels. Which makes it incredibly fast and easy to introduce the app to your team.
We'll put together this information in a Getting Started guide to share the details fo each step and make this process more transparent. I really appreciate your feedback, please let me know if you have any additional questions at brad@unicorntrain.com 🦄
