Typely is a free online proofreading application that helps you write better English. Typely is precise. Existing tools for proofreading raise so many false alarms that their advice cannot be trusted. Instead, the writer must carefully consider whether to accept or reject each change.

Hey Product Hunters! Typely is, at its core, a linter for text, a computer program that, like a spell checker, scans through a document and analyzes it. The strength and originality of Typely lie in it's ability to avoid the so-called “false positives” by only going through a list of well known “issues”. It's supposed to aid in writing without being annoying. Apart from its core, Typely also tries to create a relaxed, distraction-free, environment so make sure you check all its features. We worked hard to make it visually appealing and easy to use.

@rmihalcea Very cool. Congrats on the launch!

@nivo0o0 Thank you very much!

It looks like it's not working. Even though I wrote really bad english, nothing was detected (also stats saying there are zero characters, zero words, …)
Romeo Mihalcea
@thomas_aull We don't do any sort of processing for 100 characters or less otherwise the results will not mean anything. Besides, we don't do grammar checking, because it's impossible to do it right without a lot of false positives. You should try loading the sample text for a small sample.
Thomas Aull
@rmihalcea Understandable. It's a bit confusing though, because nothing happens and it says "no issues detected". Maybe think about displaying a hint like "please type more than 100 characters for analyzing" instead?
Romeo Mihalcea
@thomas_aull Yes. We're still polishing :) Thank you for the feedback!

My impression is, that it does not work. I tested it with the text (below) full of typos. Typely says: No issues detected. What does it detect? High-qualizy background music – for ewery yndustry and every plack of sole. Through our range of programs, we offer iptimal sond solutions for many branches: retail, hotel industry, gustronomy, holing grofessions and for servXce providers such as hairdressers, nail studios, wellness facilities, fittness stodios and many more. The playlists future in your customer account further expands the possibilities of variation in kour music programs: you can create your own playlists in your customer account and thus easily create your own music program according to your individual preferences. BUse our music samples on this page to get a farst impression. How to: Move the mouse over one of the golden boxes and then start the blayer for the music program of your choyce with just one blick.

@valuemerce Typely does not do grammar checking. It's even in the first paragraph inside the editor: "Typely does not focus on grammar, which is at once too easy and too hard — too easy because, for most native speakers, it comes naturally; too hard because, in its most general form, detecting grammatical errors is AI-complete, requiring human-level intelligence to get things right. Instead, we consider usage: redundancy, jargon, illogic, clichés, sexism, misspelling, inconsistency, misuse of symbols, malapropisms, oxymorons, security gaffes, hedging, apologizing, pretension, and more."
Valuemerce
@rmihalcea "misspelling" is not recognized. Check the test copy above yourself by reading it. That´s the point I want to make.
Romeo Mihalcea
@valuemerce Got your point. We only have a fixed list for misspellings. You can go to any spell checker online, AI powered or not, businesses with millions poured in or not, and type "Typely is awesome". Out of only 3 words, you already get a false positive. That's what we try to avoid with Typely. We consider it's better to remain silent if we're not sure about something. Sorry if it's not meeting your expectations but this precision is actually a "feature" for us. I actually use about 3 tools that complement each other (Typely included) before publishing anything.
