We’re excited to be on Product Hunt today! Thank you for hunting us @kwdinc! We built Rapid because we wanted to help app developers build products with amazing real time features. We too are app developers that were desperately looking for a scalable real time database with rich query capabilities, offline scenarios and other features that would make our apps awesome and speed up development. That’s why we came up with Rapid. Our team has been working on this for over six months so this is a big day for us. Please create an account and give it a shot. Excited to see what you guys build using Rapid! Leave a comment with feedback, we’re here to answer any questions! David

@kwdinc @daviddrobik1 Interesting product – seems quite similar to firebase but the price plans don't seem to be as competitive when you look at concurrent users which is probably my main port of call. How does this compare to firebase specifically?

@benoj Hey Ben! Compared to Firebase the key differentiator for Rapid is the query-ability. You can see in the documentation that Rapid allows for rich queries including multiple filters and the ability to order by different fields they what you filter with (https://www.rapidrealtime.com/do...). On the other hand we recommend sticking with Firebase for more of a BaaS scenario when you want to replace your backend entirely. What are you currently working on?

@benoj @daviddrobik1 Firebase recently launched Cloud Firestore which also has support for compound sorting and filtering.

Interesting. If you've been working on this for over 6 months, then the announcement for Firestore would've come as a big surprise for the team. Great that you opened the Beta. Few questions: 1. How do I access this from my backend code? (e.g. Golang or Java) - I didn't notice immediately the documentation for a REST API. Is the JS API the answer (use Node)? 2. Is there a backend console for viewing / manipulating the collections & data? 3. Can you share some information about your infrastructure? Where is my data stored? Is it geo-distributed or are you located in a single DC ? Are you running on top of Amazon or Google infra?

@dotmanish Yeah you're right it was unexpected and interesting to see what Google came up with. To answer your questions: 1. Regarding SDKs we currently support only Node.js from backend languages. (REST API is being worked on as we speak) 2. Yes, there's a dashboard that lets you manipulate your collections and data once you create an account. 3. We built Rapid on top of CosmosDB from Microsoft.
