Digital writing groups deserve better than general purpose forums and back-and-forth emails. Perligo solves the problem of collaborating and critiquing writing in the digital-first format. Create a group, invite others, upload work, and critique.
Hey there PH! It's been a while since I launched something, so I'm super excited and super nervous.
Perligo is a passion project of mine that came about as a result of my experience during my master's program in creative writing. Much of the program was held online, so our critiques were all managed on discussion forums. It worked...but not well. I wanted writers to have a digital-first critique group solution.
There are other writing critique group apps out there, but most of them are public and require some sort of credit-based system to upload work. With Perligo, it's designed just like a critique group you might join in your local community or like an MFA program's critique group. All groups are private and memberships are invite-only. Group members manage their submission schedule and ensure participation.
Perligo gets out of the way of the community and group building part of the process so that it can focus in on the critiquing portion of the process. I remember having to download six or seven different PDFs to get all of the feedback on my writing during my master's program. And then I'd have to go and scroll through a bunch of disparate, non-grouped comments on a discussion forum to get the general feedback on the story. I wanted to streamline that process with Perligo.
Upload your work, and the group can add line notes. Group members can reply to each line note (i.e. a Highlight) in a thread similar to how we experience threaded messages in Slack. Group members can also add general, long-form feedback in the Conversations tab. And one really powerful components of the app is the ability to toggle feedback on and off. For members who want to provide feedback without the influence of others in their group, they can toggle everyone else's feedback off and focus solely on their critique.
Anyway, I hope you dig it and I can't wait to hear what you all think!
