The spatial workspace - organize everything on one canvas
Nototo is a spatial workspace designed to leverage your spatial awareness by allowing you to organize all of your(or your team's) information, on a single canvas.
Thanks to Kat for the hunt!
My name is Chen and I’m one of the creators of Nototo along with Austa and Evan.
Nototo is a spatial workspace that allows you and your team to organize all of your information on a single canvas. With Nototo, you can zoom out to see all of your notes/folders/tasks in one view. You can collaborate with your teammates and see their cursors working beside yours. And magically, you’ll be able to close your eyes and imagine your workspace as if it’s still right there.
Some of you may have seen Nototo on Product Hunt from over a year ago when we accidentally got hunted by Jerald(thank u jerald :))) and became product of the day. The support from Product Hunt was a big contributor that untimately enabled Nototo to evolve from a college kid’s dream project to a YC backed startup that currently employs 3 people.
For that, I am forever thankful for this community.
Since then, we’ve completely changed the design (both the aesthetics and organization system) yet our fundamental assumption has not altered one bit. And that is: All humans have a superpower when it comes to encoding spatial/visual information. We can all close our eyes right now and “see” the space around us without putting in any conscious effort. Now, imagine the same, but with your digital workspace.
We’re now onboarding
- small teams of 2-5
- individuals that write on a daily basis.
If that’s you, feel free to DM me Twitter or join the waitlist www.nototo.app!
@chen_w thanks for sharing Nototo and engaging with the community. This is definitely something I was looking for. I have tried Notion, FigJam, and other virtual boards/offices but am still looking for a tool that can sits at the happy confluence of usability and functionality. Would love to test it. DMing the Nototo Twitter account right away!
Nice relaunch, looks great! I really liked the idea of landmarks in the previous Nototo. In practice did you find that those were helpful in a spatial interface? Do you think that's something you'd explore with this version?
@anthonyec Thank you!
First of all, fantastic questions!
Short answer is no.
Long answer:
One of the reason why we removed those "landmarks" is because we felt like they didn't add much in terms of helping me navigate, yet it added a lot of unnecessary complexity + friction. Another problem is that by using WebGL as our main visual stack, it made it difficult to build features. At the end of the day the core loop of Nototo will be to record/retrieve information so anything that makes it harder to improve the core loop should be reconsidered.
