amazing concept! where does the data come from? for "Slaughterhouse 5" the website suggested a few other Vonnegut's titles - not super ground-breaking. For Franzen's "Freedom" suggestions were much more interesting, mostly from other authors, which I now need to check out. How does it work in general?
@max_kotin Thank you for checking it out. We are continually tweaking our recommendations, striking a balance between catering to experienced readers and new readers, albeit with a slight bias toward the latter. Consequently, you may notice that more books by some of the more popular authors are recommended to you.
As for how it works, we have been building a database of book-to-book relationships for the past few years, starting with my personal notes on the books I've read. This involves considering various factors such as genres, readership data, social media activity, and recommendations from other readers. Recommending a 'similar' book is then a matter of aggregating the weights of these relationships and ranking them accordingly.
@max_kotin When I'm not coding, I'm reading :) Started this during the COVID pandemic, when I ran out of interesting books to read. Thank you for your support
