Enjoy a cleaner MacOS desktop, more focus, free memory, and enhanced battery life. MagicQuit is a small tool that automatically quits apps that you haven used within 12 hours (customizable). It's extremely lightweight and open source.

I use many applications simultaneously and, regrettably, often fail to close them. While Arc Browser provided a fantastic solution for browser tabs, I lacked a solution for MacOS apps, which resulted in having dozens of applications in the Dock. I tested several solutions, but they either didn't fit my workflow well or consumed too much battery. Therefore, I developed MagicQuit. The app is utterly straightforward, extremely lightweight and even saves memory and battery. It operates in the background, identifying which app is in focus and closing all apps that have not been used in the last 12 hours (can be customized). You can exclude apps that should never be closed by a simple click on the checkbox or reset the timer easily if you want an app to remain open a bit longer. System apps and processes are never closed. At present, it only supports MacOS 13 and newer. This is just a fun, personal side project, so I don't offer any support. However, it's entirely free (no ads) and open source. Moreover, the app operates entirely offline, so there's no need to worry about data collection. Feel free to use it, extend it or totally disregard it if you're accustomed to regularly closing your applications 😁
