I think the idea has good potential, but I would love to see more in-depth stories when I click on the cards. Most of them link to a third-party news website, which is nice, but it would be great to have a small post on the HNTL website itself. There's only so many times one can read "Couldn't raise enough capital".
Loved the integration with Embedly to help validate social proof on the content.
