Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm excited (and a little nervous!) to share Emotly, my personal happiness tracker, with you all today!
This journey started back in 2024. Like many, I was using mood trackers to monitor my emotional well-being. The year began incredibly well, but then a prolonged illness hit, and the following months were tough. This swing made me question everything – was happiness just fleeting?
As a professional poker player, I'm used to meticulously tracking wins and losses. Even during downswings, I can see my overall progress and know if I'm "up" long-term. I desperately wanted the same perspective on my happiness. Was I "net positive" for the year despite the rough patch?
I dove into existing apps (downloading over 30!), but they only gave me snapshots – happy here, sad there. None could show me the bigger picture or answer my core question. It struck me as odd: we track steps, calories, sleep... but often lack a nuanced way to track the most crucial metric – our overall emotional well-being.
I started building my own system in Excel/Notion, assigning numerical values (-100 to 100) to my emotional states and linking them to activities. The insight was immediate and profound. Thinking in points, not just vague emojis, made me far more aware. I could see patterns, understand triggers, and even felt a bit like Cypher from The Matrix, seeing the "code" behind my own emotions and experiences. It wasn't just tracking; it was deep self-awareness.
That's why I built Emotly. It's designed to go beyond simple mood logging:
✅ Precise Emotion Rating: Use the -100 to 100 scale for nuanced tracking, capturing the richness of your feelings quickly.
📊 Powerful Analytics: Visualize your emotional trends with graphs and charts. Discover patterns, identify triggers, and see the bigger picture.
🔍 Understand Your Best/Worst: This is key! Emotly helps you compare your best and worst days, months, or even years, so you can truly understand what drives your happiness and well-being (like seeing if you're "up" long-term!).
📔 Comprehensive Journal: Add activities, notes, locations, and photos for rich context. Includes a dedicated Gratitude Journal feature.
🔒 Privacy First: Your data is stored securely on your device and accessible only by you. Optional encrypted backups to Google Drive/iCloud keep it safe.
Emotly aims to provide the deep emotional insights I couldn't find elsewhere, moving beyond simple tracking towards genuine self-understanding and personal growth. It takes just a few extra seconds compared to tapping an emoji, but the gain in self-awareness is immense.
I truly believe understanding our emotional landscape is key to a better life, and I hope Emotly can be a valuable tool for others on that journey.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and questions! Thanks for checking out Emotly! 🙏
Cheers!
Oh, a few years ago, I wanted to build a similar app. My attempt failed while I was drafting the idea, but it's nice to see it in action, implemented by someone else. So, I'm naturally in love with the idea, but I like your solution - it looks nice. Good luck with your launch!
@valkirilov Thank you! It's great to connect with someone who also saw the potential in this kind of app. Sorry your earlier attempt didn't pan out, but I'm really glad you like how Emotly looks and feels. Appreciate the support and good wishes! Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements.
@evakk You can see your patterns on the Insight tab, and by applying advanced filters, you can identify what triggers your best and worst days. For example, I found out that my top 3 days last year were simply days when I was at home with my family.
It doesn't offer personalized suggestions yet. However, what I did was export all my entries to a CSV file and upload it to ChatGPT, which gave me many more insights about myself.

Curious about how does Emotly determine what triggers certain emotional patterns? Can it offer personalized suggestions?
