------πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Why I built this-------- I was a big drinker as a teen, in college and in my 20s. 😬 Only recently have I started analyzing my relationship with alcohol and trying to find a healthier balance. The hangovers were just getting worse and worse, and ultimately I realized were getting in the way of me pursuing my dreams of being an entrepreneur. So I started using my other product, Harold the Habit Tracker, to track how many drinks I was having each day. The accountability and check-ins did wonders to build awareness around my drinking habits. My fiancΓ© tracked his drinks with Harold for months and saw huge results as well (he really doesn't drink at all now). So I had the idea of making a version of Harold specifically for changing drinking habits and thought... a Dry January Challenge would be the perfect MVP. -------πŸ’― Why its awesome and better than other apps---------- The problem (for me) with all these other behavior change apps–they try to dictate too much. They want all this information and all this money up front, only to tell me what to do and make me feel guilty when I don’t meet my goals. That’s why I design all my products with the same design philosophy: πŸ’¬ SMS based, so I don’t forget to track πŸ‘‹ Light accountability (if it's too heavy-handed, I'll rebel) πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ freedom and flexibility to make my own rules (pause when I need to, skip days w/o punishment) 🧠 occasional reminders of the benefits (science says this is actually part of how motivation is represented in the brain) πŸ‘ No app to download or password logins to remember (because who needs another app or password to remember) -------πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Any questions or feedback for me!? ---------- Let me know in the comments or on Twitter Would love to see you join the challenge!

I've seen similar SMS programs for smoking cessation offered by pharmacies. They use business-expensive software to run it! 😭 Funnily enough, I've never seen the evidence to support those programs. Love that this references a study on the home page!
Kyleigh Smith
@joshtoasts Oh no way! Never seen that. Very cool. Maybe I need to link up with pharmacies πŸ˜‚ And thanks! Yeah I was really surprised to see how effective it was in that study, I was on the fence before and then once I saw that I was like ok this is kind of a no-brainer

@kyleighsmith For sure! I gave this ("smoking cessation pharmacy sms") a Google just now, I'm sure you'll find the results fascinating.
Kyleigh Smith
@joshtoasts yes very interesting! looks like even some studies done showing the effectiveness.
