Your own private GitHub notes on every page. Private notes and labels across all repos, issues, PRs, and discussions. Use the browser extension to remember your ideas and thoughts in context, right where you need them.
Hi Product Hunt community 👋,
I'm excited to announce dossi - a browser extension and web app that allows you create, track and manage private notes across GitHub pages (issues, repos, PRs, discussions).
I work in GitHub a lot, across multiple projects and organizations. It's always a challenge to keep track of all the links and thoughts that I have in the moment, especially for things like issues or PRs that could be open for a long time. I was either in tab overload or copy/pasting all of these links and notes into other places but then never following up. Tbh, all of the different processes and notifications in different places was messy.
So I created dossi, with the goal of simplifying all of that - providing easy entry points for developers and users to maximize their recall when jumping from page to page on GitHub 🚀.
Notes are accessible in multiple formats: on the page directly where you create them and also on the web app, which provides a "meta" way to track, sort, filter all of your activity.
dossi includes: notes, labels, pinned pages, a web app to aggregate and download your notes and simple and easy to use 😊.
How dossi works -
1. After installation, sign in with your GitHub account to start using the extension.
2. The browser extension will now show when visiting a GitHub URL. Open the sidebar by clicking on the dossi button. The button will also display the number of notes that you have for the page.
3. Capture thoughts in the moment when exploring an open-source project, triaging an open issue or collaborating on pull requests. Add notes, pins or label a page when you get an idea or don't want to forget your stream of consciousness.
4. Your notes will be available when you visit the page again or reviewed and managed "across page" from the web app.
Thanks everyone, I hope that you find dossi useful, it's already helped me simplify my workflow. I'd really like to get feedback from this community, please share in the comments!
Dossi sounds like an exciting tool and a great workaround to managing multiple GitHub projects! It seems like a useful tool that can help simplify workflows. I was wondering if there is any plan to extend its capabilities beyond GitHub in the future? Also, is there a mobile version of dossi or is it currently a browser-only extension? Looking forward to try it - thanks!
Thanks, @jasdeep_chhabra! dossi is currently browser extension only and the web app for managing (and viewing) labels, pins, and notes at a "meta" level. It's also possible to download your notes from the web app in CSV or JSON format. For extending beyond GitHub, yes, I'm currently evaluating this and open to feedback!
