Cassette is the best way for designers to record & share user interviews. With almost no overhead, you can record, transcribe, and bookmark key moments in user interviews – and share it all with your team.
Hey Product Hunt
Cassette is the best way to record, transcribe & search important conversations, like user interviews, meetings, lectures & video calls. With almost no overhead, you can record, transcribe, and bookmark key moments - and share it all with your team.
Since we first announced Cassette a few months ago (https://www.producthunt.com/post...), we've been overwhelmed by the response from the community. Thousands of users have been using the app everyday, many for 4 or more hours each day. Thanks for all the compliments and feedback you've sent us! We're now ready to take the next step in our master plan for global domination and expand beyond just user interviews.
Today, we're releasing Cassette 2.0 for iOS on the App Store, our biggest update ever.
What's New in 2.0:
- Cassette now supports transcription in Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese (BR), English (UK) and English (US).
- You can now import audio & video files into Cassette from any app, then transcribe & search them.
- You can now export your bookmarks and comments from Cassette to any app, in addition to the audio & transcript.
- Chat with us from inside the app.
- Restart the free trial in the app if you used it up on a short conversation. We think Cassette is most useful for longer recordings, so you can search, skim & skip through the audio.
- Rename or Delete Conversations and Projects.
- Edit your payment method.
...and lots more.
You can try Cassette for free by transcribing your first conversation (up to 30 minutes). All features of Cassette are free except transcription, which is less than $3 per hour. Cassette transcription is instant, confidential and more than 20x cheaper than manual transcription services. Users have seen accuracy as high as 90% but even a lower accuracy transcript is very helpful for searching through audio or skimming the transcript.
The app was designed by designers from Stanford d.school and UCLA Cognitive Science in collaboration with David Kelley (cofounder of IDEO and d.school). We love hearing feedback from our users and read & respond to every message personally.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts,
Angad
PS you can chat with us from the website or app, tweet us at @CassetteTech or email me angad@lemonade.io
@preetangad this is great! Are you working on an enterprise version? We have meetings where 6 or more people dial-in. If we could have cassette as one of the dial-ins transcribe the meeting that would be great.
@tjpatel Hey we already have an enterprise version for teams. Send me a note and I'd be happy to tell you more about that. However, we don't yet have the ability to dial in and/or record calls. We're definitely working on that and hope to have it soon though!
1/2
So here I am, working on my editorial planner and looking for an additional content type to add to the mix. I'm thinking about infographics, interviews, podcasts, audio clips, etc.
I then think to myself, listening to conversations is one of the best ways to learn something. It's like your that fly on the wall and you get to listen to all the golden nuggets being shared back and forth.
Next thing I do, I add a task of finding a tool to record myself and interviews I'm planning to do. I thought that maybe there was going to be a tool that could create a transcript automatically, but not in a gibberish way. I wanted something that was going to understand and transcribe word for word.
So, the day starts and I go and check product hunt just to see whats new. First thing I see, and I kid you not, is Casette 2.0 😱‼️
The idea was compelling, so I downloaded the app. I thought the subscription model made no sense, but I wanted to try the product, so I paid for the basic $10/month plan.
The promised "import audio" from another app feature? Nowhere to be found.
I emailed the company asking if I was missing something, and got no response.
Then I checked the App Store to see if other people were having similarly terrible experiences and...the app is no longer in the store.
I cancel my subscription, then follow up and ask for an explanation and a refund.
That was over a month ago. I've since heard nothing.
Chargeback time.
Pros:
At this point, nothing at all.
Cons:
The app stopped working and is no longer in the App Store. The developer stopped responding to emails, including one asking for a refund.
Hi Dan
Thanks for the review, and sorry about the slow response. Our company was going through an acquisition and that took a lot of bandwidth away from our small team. I sincerely apologize for the bad experience. As of today, I have personally responded to every customer email from the last 3 months and I would like to express my sincerest apologies to you the few other customers who had to wait for a response.
Regarding your question about the Import Audio feature, that feature is very much in the app. The way to do it is to go to the audio file you want to have transcribed, no matter what app on your phone has it (like Evernote, Google Drive, Dropbox, Voice Memos etc). Then, just click the Share or Export button and you will see an option in the list called "Import to Cassette". We understand that feature is hard to find in the app, but unfortunately Apple does not allow us to import files directly and this is the standard way apps can share files amongst each other.
As you noted, the app is not on the App Store at the moment. This is because we need to make some changes to the App before we can put it back on the App Store as a result of the acquisition. We pride ourselves on having great customer reviews on the App Store and not being on the App Store is not ideal for us either. I understand this doesn't give you much information but I promise we'll have more news soon. Meanwhile, if you or anyone would like to try the app again, we are happy to add them to our list of beta testers. If you happen to have deleted the app from your phone, I have also added you to our list of beta testers. You should have an email inviting you to install a test build of the app.
Finally, we have a no questions asked refund policy and we issue refunds to every customer. I have issued you a refund for your payment of $10 (I would've refunded any and all payments on your account to make up for the delay but it seems that was the only payment). Again, I apologize that we were slow to respond to you. To make up, I have also added a coupon for $10 off your next purchase of any plan (including the $10 plan), and we would really appreciate you trying the app again.
If you are skeptical, you can try the import feature by simply exporting any audio file from any app on your phone to Cassette completely for free to verify that it does indeed import the whole audio file into Cassette and you can add bookmarks and comments as well for free. Should you decide to try transcription feature, you can try the base plan completely for free as a result of the coupon.
Once again, I apologize for the delay in helping you with this. I really appreciate your initial excitement about using the app and would be very grateful if you can try the app again. If it works for you, it would mean a lot to us if you could update your review as well but I completely understand if you have found a different solution to your problem.
Thanks for trying Cassette and sorry about the slow response
