Auto rename papers, SEC filings, books & more
18 followers
1) Auto generate meaningful filenames for downloads. 2) Consistent formats for major file types. E.g. papers are formatted as date of download - title - author's last name. 3) Add your preferences like using underscores or your own format for a specific file type. For example, you download invoices a lot, you can add invoices = vendor name - $ amount - receipt date - item (in development tbh :)
Hii to Product Hunt! We are very excited to introduce Cantrips.ai.
The problem
- There are so many files floating on the screen, most with unknown and meaningless filenames, so I often can't find which is the one I want. I have to download it again and again, sometimes the repetition number amounting over (10) :<
- More importantly, I want my desktop/finder to look tidy. It feels good when everything is organized, but I don't want to handle the renaming in the mid of my research (or I am simply a bit lazy :p
✔ Core features
- Auto generate meaningful filenames when a download is triggered.
- Specific naming formats for papers, books, financial reports, industry reports, technical documentations, etc.
- Add your file naming rules. For now, you can choose download date formats. Let us know if adding your own format for a file type should be developed ASAP! For example, if you download meeting memos a lot, you may add interviewee's name_company_position_topic_date
- Currently supports common text files including docx, txt, and pdf.
- Filenames are in the same language as the major language used in the file content.

- Note, Cantrips.ai hasn't supported some websites like downloads from GitHub due to technical complications. It hasn't supported images, either. We are also considering applying a similar approach to other knowledge management tools like website bookmarks or folders.
