@karlnislow Thanks for asking. Curology is an awesome choice if you have mild acne. It’s like Proactiv, except it actually works for some people 😂
Apostrophe is much more of a replacement for the exceptional care one would get from seeing a dermatologist in-person. The problem is that it’s SUPER hard to see one in normal times, let alone during COVID.
First off, your treatment plan is created by an actual board-certified dermatologist, as opposed to any other kind of provider (or even an algorithm on some other parts of the interwebz :eyes:)
Second is that an Apostrophe treatment plan is comprehensive af. You can be prescribed 1-4 different medications. These medications can either be topical medications (like creams and lotions) or oral medications (pills or tablets). Our topicals are custom-made for you and we offer 9 different prescription ingredients at varying potencies - so you’ll get exactly the right medication for your skin concerns. The oral medications can be hugely helpful for hormonal and/or severe acne.
Hope that helps!
@ryan_hambley1
Thanks for the reply! Curology uses board-certified dermatologist as well and also creates custom prescription plans using prescription-grade ingredients. In terms of differences between your product and theirs from what I call tell, it looks like your formulations include a larger selection of actives as well as oral acne medication options. So as you say likely a better choice for folks struggling with severe acne. You also aren't just focused on skincare. I see offerings for hair loss and eyelash growth so a bit more of a one-stop-shop for facial aesthetics which I'm sure some customers would find useful.
However, as a customer who is looking for a custom topical prescription and doesn't require oral medication, the price point for medicated facial cream being $90 for a 3-month supply vs. Curology which is ~$60 for a 3-month supply is why I likely won't convert to your product. That being said, I'm excited to see how Apostrophe evolves over time and whether my opinion changes!
@ryan_hambley1@karlnislow Thanks for the great question and for your thoughtful response! Just to clarify, Curology uses mid-level providers (such as Physician Assistants), not medical doctors (MD's) certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Our doctors are really the cream of the crop. They care about your skin and want to see it get better! They have the knowledge and expertise that comes from years of school and experience, and they have an arsenal of medications at their disposal to provide you the absolute best treatment.
@ryan_hambley1@aimee_paik
Thanks Dr. Paik! I think that's a great distinguishing factor to call out. Just to fact check your statement slightly, Curology uses, "board-certified dermatologist, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner" (https://support.curology.com/art...). For example, I am partnered with a board certified dermatologist myself but someone else might not be so perhaps a little more hit or miss.
Anyway, thank you both again for answering my questions.
Hey Product Hunt!
First off, thanks @pollock for hunting Apostrophe!
I’m Ryan, a co-founder of Apostrophe 👋. We help people get the best treatments for their skin. With Apostrophe, a dermatologist will create a personalized treatment plan and your prescription skincare products are delivered to your door.
Problem:
- There is a lot of misinformation around skincare
- It is hard to sift through all the possible skincare ingredients and find the right ones
- Going to a dermatologist is expensive and time consuming
The solution
✅ See a dermatologist online
✅ Get prescription skincare tailored to you
We support you on your skincare journey through access to experts, education, and evidence-based products.
We have worked hard to build the most comprehensive selection of evidence-based medications, which include both topical prescriptions (like tretinoin or hydroquinone) and oral prescriptions (like spironolactone or doxycycline).
Thank you for checking us out! 🙏
Any questions, please ask.
Hey, Ryan. Thank you for the product! I agree that there is a lot of misinformation about skincare. It is so difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is always better to consult a dermatologist than to try everything possible on your skin to see whether it works or not. My dermatologist advised me to get paraben-free mild soap for my face skin. Just got ordered some from https://mildsoaps.com/parabens-f.... Hope it will help me reduce my severe acne because I have already tried a lot of scrubs and other things that did not help. I am almost desperate now and hope my dermatologist will help me.
This is a LONG review but as one of Apostrophe's #1 fans, I couldn't hold back. ;-)
As a skincare enthusiast myself, it can be very frustrating navigating the oversaturated skincare market. It is hard to know what is misinformation, outlandish marketing claims, and overhyped, ineffective ingredients. What I love about Apostrophe is that they are catering to those skincare enthusiasts that want science-backed ingredients that give REAL results.
Apostrophe's team of dermatologists are passionate about skincare and helping people by developing a regimen that works specifically for their skin type - not just pushing the latest fad ingredient. I hope the beauty/skincare world starts to challenge the companies out there that are constantly launching products with ingredients meant to produce a marketing story, instead of sticking to ingredients that have been thoroughly tested and proven to work. People with real skin concerns deserve better.
I know the draw for the newest aesthetically beautiful skincare product to display on your vanity can be hard to pass, but Apostrophe delivers not only Instagram-worthy packaging but also products that I know won't just sit there unused for display reasons only. They are changing the idea of dermatology from being boring and clinical to fun and aesthetically beautiful! I have never felt compelled to take pictures of my prescription bottles. Now with Apostrophe, it's hard not to!
Apostrophe makes skincare simple, accessible, trusted, and fun. I feel confident that I am getting the best products because I know they are using the best ingredients. I can't wait to see how far they go and how many people they help to receive the skincare they deserve at a price that won't break the bank. Keep up the good work, Apostrophe!

In particular, if you are prone to bloating or have a sensitive GI system, Cassetty recommends starting with half a can and working your way up from there. You can also test out different brands to see how your digestive system fares with various fibers and formulations, Bragagnini says. (If you have a GI condition, however, like irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease, it’s best to check with your doc first.) Any time you are unused to eating much fiber, bumping up your intake (regardless of the type) could cause tummy troubles, Cassetty says, so you want to be aware of that and tune into any discomfort you may feel. Incorporating fiber slowly gives your body time to adjust.

Customer service is terrible!!! There was a mistake on my perscription (their mistake) and they would jot admit it. They were just rude about my inquiry. Be aware if this because if you have a problem, you will NOT get any help!
