Why Product Hunt does not have a dislike button?

the upvote principle in product hunt is kind of similar to a "like" button. Makers can have an idea of how many people like their project by looking at the number of upvotes.
Don't you think that it would be interesting to have a dislike button as well in order to invalidate an idea ?

A dislike button could do more harm than good, if a group of people wants you to fail they will make sure you do, that's called "brigading".
A dislike is much easier to give than an actual like, so let's keep PH the way it is, if you like a product or discussion, just like/upvote it, if you don't then show that you actually did some research and comment what you dislike instead of wanting to dislike something without any explanation, or you could just ignore it.
I see plenty of products and discussions that I don't like, but I don't wanna dislike them, I just move on to other things that interest me.

A dislike button doesn't belong in communities like this. You will get great feedback here that helps you to better your product instead of just bringing you and your product down.
@sandradjajic very true! thanks for your answer
hmm if I want to add or somehow dislike an idea, I comment, so it adds on post/discussion engagement might be because of that. To increase community engagement.
Also, if someone dislikes your product. You will get no chance to ask them "why" unless you follow them on other socials
@carmela_padasas 100% agree! I also don't like the dislike term, maybe to be improved or have some doubts but for me dislike is a bit harsh, could be because of that too! And also there could be transparency issues such as not knowing who and why someone is disliking you or your product (could be a bot or a competitor) which could be hard for PH to manage.
@carmela_padasas Makes perfect sense, thanks for sharing your opinion with us :)
