    OpenAI’s announcement of AI Assistants gets us closer to autonomous AI agents making their own purchases online. When you know what Bitcoin’s Lightning Network is capable of, it’s hard to understand how AI agents could realistically use traditional payment rails instead. Can small fractions-of-a-cent transactions be done at large scale? Can AI agent transactions be done across borders or are they subject to banking & regulatory boundaries?

    AI agents will likely use the most efficient payment systems available. if bitcoin's lightning network provides seamless microtransactions, which as far we see it does, it could be the choice for its speed and borderless nature. regulatory frameworks will evolve with these advancements, shaping how and where such transactions occur.
