Indeed. Clicks, website transactions and actions, website data...none of it tells you why a human did what they did. They only tell you what happened, not why. Understanding the why is the critical part. And the why cannot be quantified. This is the biggest mistake marketers have made.

@giles_crouch Exactly this. People often think all their answers will come from data. It will absolutely reveal answers and indicate if something is working or not but that’s it.

@giles_crouch very valid! I decided to casually interview a few people rather than rely on stats. I found out more about their paint points than any stat could give you.
@giles_crouch there's a good insight into data, but if you don't know 'why', possibly the chance is, you would be distracted and wouldn't know the real game
