  • “What's your approach - Quality or Quantity?”

Hey PH family, being a new member of this community, I wish to connect with you all and learn a lot in this journey with you :) This morning, I recalled some recent situations I faced while working on my new product. I landed up being in a position where I had to choose between Quality and Quantity. We are all quite familiar with the phrase “Quality over Quantity”. But it gets tricky sometimes because when you go with quality, you head towards sacrificing the good and keeping the great, whereas talking about quantity, “you can hit gold at any moment.” This principle hits all aspects of our life, including relationships, work, love, nature, and everything surrounding it. So, I’d love to know your approach in the comments. What did you prioritise more when you were stuck in such situations?

Start with doing a quality work, which need to proof itself valuable and meaningful. Only after that think about quantity, e.g. growing your quality work.

@authentic_kz yeah...with this approach, you won't burn out on resources. Also, when you are ready to increase your product quantity, you'd find raving customers who wants more of your product.

Depends, but always quality over qty as once you have quality, qty follows

My approach is on quality but we should never ignore quantity.

@rhea_reanoga thanks for sharing your opinion. :) How do you execute both quality and quantity?

Unfortunately, I've never been good at choosing... so I go for both. Doesn't sound sustainable and yet... I'm still around!

@selin_anil Thanks for sharing, Selin. :) Would you mind sharing a story where you have combined them successfully?

@alessandro_canella I am currently building a product. Most people around here surely what it means to work early in a start-up ;-) As a very perfectionist personality, it is hard for me to not to overperform, and above all not to achieve something when I see what can be done, and have a precise idea of how to do it. So I tend to go 400% into the *thing* I'm at in this period of my life. And I do appreciate you translating this Quantity vs Quality concept to any life situation, I can relate! My answer then would be: when I find something that truly matters to me, and and choose to really go for it, then I make the necessary space in my life. That does look like sacrificing my things, including a certain balance, but it is my personal way of functioning and enables me to produce deep work for extended periods of time. That's how I manage to reconcile quantity and quality. Kind of by kicking out all the rest that doesn't directly serve my goal. It is a controversial choice, I reckon. But for now it works for me :-)

Welcome to the community Alessandro! I believe that when you are able to actually hit a high-quality benchmark, you automatically hit the quantity target as well. Every day I ask myself the same question but in the end I always go for quality.

Hey Alessandro✊ I pick quality. many luxury brands pick quality. the Law of Demand and Supply picks quality. everytime. A short example: you have few high quality products and you let your buyers know. with good copywriting, you trigger your customers' scarcity mindset and guess what? they rush for your products. because you give the best everytime, your customers want to get your products before someone else does. at the end of sales, here are your results: no. of production days= reduced time it takes to sell products= reduced energy invested in product making and selling= reduced profit= increased customer loyalty= increased peace of mind= increased Do you get the picture?

@davewave Thanks for sharing this interesting picture about Quality or Quantity. I agree with your explanation and intention. Kool! :)

Welcome to the community Alessandro, For me, Quality should always be the target, however I feel at times you need to be prepared to go the Quantity route, especially if you're building a new product in an unproven vertical. The need to be quick to market, or the unknown whether what your research (or gut) is right about what people might use or pay for are definitely times where it's often better to get something out, validate your hypotheses, and then if they were right, come back and put the focus on quality.

@stevenbirchall Thanks Steven! I appreciate your thoughts. :) Useful and interesting!

I go with quality. In 99% cases; and here is why - to me, the quality means more commitment and more personal responsibility. Thus, focusing more on quantity, in my mind, can potentially lead to more mistakes, miscalculations and negative consequences to deal with later. So better do something less but better (or the best possible) is how I operate - in work and life :)
