Probably the fact that people want to contribute to the community only a short while before launching and aren't exactly interested in being active members and building helpful relationships more long-term.

I saw some products, that were launching together with me last week, were using some bots to get to the higher rank. They constantly jumped from position #6 to position #16 or similar, the product hunt cleaned their cheat. I think it's really a bad idea as it's not the real upvotes you can communicate with and convert to the potential users.
