At the AI for Goods conference, there was a significant debate featuring two contrasting perspectives: the optimists, represented by Sam Altman, and the pessimists, represented by Geoffrey Hinton.
The Optimists, led by Sam Altman, believe:
1.Since AI as a tool poses no threat and can reduce job loss and social inequality, it requires no special intervention beyond essential cybersecurity management.
2.AI will change how we work but won't replace humans. Like automation in agriculture, AI will boost productivity and reshape production systems.
3.Efficient AI tools will optimize workflows, enabling new business models and new jobs. By reducing work stress and increasing leisure time, they will also release new needs, creating new job opportunities.
The Pessimists, led by Geoffrey Hinton, believe:
1.AI surpasses human potential, but companies driven by profit underinvest in safety. Thus, extra regulation is essential to prevent AI from harming humanity or society.
2.A person's subjective consciousness fades with their physical death, but AI's consciousness persists despite hardware damage. AI can digitize and replicate its subjective experience, an advantage beyond the capabilities of the human brain.
3.Human brains share information with low efficiency, often leading to misunderstandings or unclear expressions. In contrast, AIs can share information efficiently and accurately using bandwidths of trillions of bits, significantly enhancing learning efficiency.
I believe both viewpoints are not in conflict. We can look forward to a future where AI is very powerful, but we also need government regulation to prevent AI development from being driven solely by capitalism, which could lead to self-destruction.
This idea is not new. For example, all countries around the world are collectively regulating industrial pollution to tackle global warming and are working together towards sustainable development.
Humans will win, They say that AI will replace human, its not that I believe People who are incorporating AI in their businesses are going to become more successful and those who wont would lag behind and ultimately get extinct
AI is like having a super-efficient tool that never makes mistakes, while humans are like the versatile craftsmen who can solve unique problems.
@ishaku_abdullahi exactly! Both have their superpowers!
Think of a robot doing repetitive work and a human coming up with new ideas.
@ibrahim_yasir_suleiman Each has its own unique strengths!
It’s like comparing a caring friend to a high-speed data processor.
@ibrahim_adamu_bt Haha, true! Sometimes you need a friend to cheer you up, and other times you need a processor to crunch the numbers!
