PH says goodbye to hunters?

The latest Product Hunt update has arrived this morning. There are lots of changes, especially on the homepage, and product pages.
I don't know have you noticed but PRODUCTS are more outshined than makers and hunters. I don't think it is a bad thing but we will see.
and not to mention the hunter's situation. I think we are not going to be asked to hunt products in the near future. What do you think?

Sadly, my most-used feature is missing as well: "Related Products". I used this to discover alternatives, competitors, and similar hunts. Very disappointed that this was removed.
And with such a major redesign, it's a bit strange that there wasn't an announcement, email, tweet, or even changelog entry.

@tomcharde I agree. I do also love this feature. I hope it comes back.

@tomcharde Hey Tom! Thanks for the feedback, you caught the changes before our official announcement went out, but you can see more details here: https://www.producthunt.com/post...
I think it's more "real" that makers publish, and hunters come to interact and comment...

Hey Yucel, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
In the previous design, the post pages had SO much information on them and were trying to be all things to all people, even though there were lots of different use cases to support.
With this update, we had to make some decisions about what to prioritize in each view. Partly, this meant breaking down the various use cases (what does someone want to see when they're browsing items from the home page, vs. when they're searching for a specific product)? But the other part was digging into the analytics.
One of the key insights was that almost 80% of posts are actually self-posted (where the hunter is also a maker). So that, combined with the fact that users told us again and again that they cared most about understanding what the product was about, led us to prioritize product information above hunter details. That said, we still do show the hunter + makers and have no intention of changing that.
Change always takes a little getting used to, but we have lots of additional features we plan to build onto each of these new surfaces! Keep sharing your feedback, it's really helpful for me and the whole team.
I agree with you Yücel, simple and clear interface but Hunters are lost :( maybe, they are focused on the product.
I like the new design, it is more convenient. You can check the stats at the bottom of the product page. Cool!

I have to say that I like the shift. Being more product-focused should help makers present their product better and attract people based on the features themselves.
A remote working solution.
Generally, I think the new design is an upgrade. The ability to see launch stats alone is great. I think the the decreasing importance of Hunters has been around for a while but they aren't going to disappear completely.
We have decided to do a launch with a hunter after all. We're studying the new updates now

@jash_shah8 You can still follow hunters and makers! Just have to click through to their profiles.
I still think hunters bring exposure to any launch, especially if they are well connected
@simran_khaitan Yeah, especially when marketing is such an uphill battle
@simran_khaitan @dylan_merideth seems to me that a lot of PH launches rely too heavily on hunters to jumpstart community. And that the lack of community pre-launch is why so many products launched on PH fail to level up. Early community guides the product build because its where you find believers, collaborators, early adopters. PH is a beautiful platform to show both product and community off to get to the next level-- growth-- but most Makers get it backwards-- find a hunter, launch, hope for community to form, but then there's crickets.
@simran_khaitan @tim_parsa2 I do not disagree, but I stand by what I said. Its analogous to influencer marketing. Is a hunter the only thing you need? Not even close, its hardly needed whatsoever until you have a product with demonstrated demand. I mean, Product hunt isnt really useful from a founder perspective until that point. If PH is the major pillar of your GTM strategy, then one should really evaluate deeply and re-work that. But if you want a lil extra boost, get a hunter with some visibility and pull, and it will help you reach more eyes.
@dylan_merideth I couldn't agree with you more. They are super helpful for early stage start-ups
Honestly, didn't notice an update, but I would much rather have the product be the center of attention than my profile :)

I totally agree here, but in my opinion, I think the product is more important these days
