  • Is there a version of social media that isn’t mentally destructive? If so, what is it?

Note: does social media need addictive / mentally destructive mechanisms to succeed?

Social media in most cases only reveal that mentally destroyed people exist, and they're not in the minority, if it didn't exist, they would've been addicted to other forms of entertainment. I mainly use social media because it's work-related, after so many years on the internet, I just got bored of the same old trash that people are recycling and branding it as the new big thing. Nowadays it's just low-effort content, bots, AI bs, and scammers, even on this platform I used to like.

@londonothecity There isn't, I know I'd switch back to good old forums in a heartbeat, at least there were quality conversations going on, well, most of the time.

@chris_sarca mostly agree. however, social media apps incentivize our worst behavior on a plethora of fronts which certainly has a negative effect on mental health. do you think there is an alternative?
