Is it easy to find others building open-source projects in your local area?

HBR reports that over 60% of knowledge workers started working more often on side projects even during work hours especially after remote steps into their lives, but in every country the case is different somehow popular but hard to find local open source communities to join or get help. Do you think that communities who work on side projects in your local area are hard to find or not popular at all..
