  • How the Product Hunt Community inspired me to reboot my social media strategy

Over the past 2-3 years, I've been an active user of X (formerly Twitter), which consumed a significant portion of my free time. I enjoyed engaging with a small group of people worldwide through reading tweets, occasionally writing my own, and participating in X Spaces. Compared to LinkedIn, where recruiters and unsolicited business offers constantly approached me, X felt more interactive and enjoyable. As for Facebook, it remained a tool for staying connected with my local community and real-world friends. As time went on, I found myself coasting along with these platforms, not expecting much from them and receiving nothing in return. That is until I joined the Product Hunt (PH) community. Within a few short months, I witnessed fellow community members intentionally growing their networks and support systems, many achieving success without some of the advantages I possessed. This realization sparked a desire to rethink my social media presence and strategize for intentional growth. Prior to my involvement in PH, I hadn't been mindful of who I followed on X or what their motives were. As a result, my feed became saturated with negativity and complaints about various aspects of life. Hardly any of these users were builders, and our interactions lacked substance. It was an unhealthy dynamic, and although I recognized it, I felt no urgency to change. Engaging with the PH community ignited a drive to pursue something more meaningful. I was inspired by fellow members striving to accomplish their goals and wanted to cultivate a social media presence that reflected this newfound intentionality. So, I decided to reboot my social media: X Profile (mjkabir): Focused on providing valuable content related to my interests – technology, startups, and business. X Profile (shownotesapp): Dedicated to highlighting user stories and showcasing product features. Instagram (photonotshopped): I created a new account to showcase my passion for photography. Using an iPhone Pro 15 and soon a Sony A7 RV, I'll capture the extraordinary beauty in the ordinary objects and nature around me. I kept my Facebook account unchanged, as it's exclusively for friends and family. Revamping my social media presence has been a rejuvenating experience. It now aligns with my goals and the ambition I've observed within the PH community. I'm grateful to everyone in the Product Hunt community for being a source of motivation and inspiration on this journey.
