How do you create a successful affiliate marketing program?

When we think about affiliate marketing programs, we associate it with cheap and effective way of getting customers. I totally see how this can work. However, in a sea of apps, many of which have billions of dollars more than what you can spend on marketing, how do you attract the perfect affiliate marketer who: 1. Is a right fit 2. Does a good job of promoting your product 3. Brings you a steady stream of customers I see that a lot of startups offer to share a big portion of their recurring revenue to attract affiliates. But I am not convinced that this is the only way. What is the best way to build an army of effective affiliate marketers?
