Cold email used to be one of our growth channels with the lowest CPA a few years back. The channel performance changed significantly last year, though it's still delivering good results for us. Here's how we do it:
- We use Mailscale to get domains and mailboxes. I highly recommend not using your main company email address as it can really mess up your deliverability.
- Make sure to warm up your new mailboxes for a few days before you start reaching out.
- Platforms like Apollo, Instantly, and Smarlead work pretty well. We use Apollo as we prefer to keep everything in one platform to make the process easier.
- We create a sequence for each persona + company size, and location. Keep the emails short. The angle that's working well for us right now is something like: "Hey [first name], I was checking out contacts at [company name] and thought you might find this valuable." Include a few lines on how we delivered results for a similar company. The call-to-action is to schedule a quick call in exchange for an offer.
- Follow up with 3-4 steps. Keep the follow-ups short, but emphasize the value and offer.
- Aim for open rates above 40% and reply rates above 5%.
- Consider not tracking clicks for deliverability, and maybe even experiment with not tracking open rates.
- Don't forget to set up custom domain tracking.
- To get responses, reach out to at least 2k prospects per month per company, and make sure to use different email addresses.
