Once lost 2 days because custom font wasn't loading on Safari - now stick to system fonts for MVP phase.

Yup, been there before! Custom fonts can be nice but are definitely risky, especially early on. We had a similar issue with a fancy script font not loading on mobile Safari - set us back almost a week. Stick with web safe fonts like you said or at least have fallbacks in place!

Yes, I’ve encountered situations where font-related issues led to project delays. For example, during a design project, the font I initially selected didn’t render properly across all devices and platforms, causing display inconsistencies. This required time to find a compatible font and adjust the layout accordingly. Additionally, when working on a website, a font chosen for branding wasn’t available in certain weights or styles, which delayed the design process as we had to choose an alternative that maintained the original aesthetic. Such issues highlight the importance of testing fonts for compatibility early in the design phase. http://fontschanger.com/
