Probably portraying their pain points in marketing communications. Picture their issues and suffering for as long as they feel connected, and at that point, talk about the product.
The primary means of reaching them is pain.

Similar scenarios are used by writers in their films. where the audience feels connected, idealizes themselves, and relates to the protagonist.
It seems that connecting to one's emotions is a vital aspect of connection in general. If marketing addresses or targets the emotions that can drive usage of their product, then that's a great marketing strategy!
