Is traditional classroom education enough to prepare students for the complexities of the real world, or should schools focus more on practical skills and real-world experiences?

Certainly not enough, but it's necessary too!

Education as a whole should be envisioned holistically: as said, it doesn't stop at the end of a lesson, it's a long process, often driven by curiosity, nurtured by some nudges.
Great question. This leads off into a lot of interesting and somewhat complicated topics. E.g. How do we define 'traditional classroom education'? Are schools not already focusing on practical skills and real world examples?
In a lot of ways, I think they are...where they can and when they can afford it
Example: While working in the UAE on computing based subjects I've seen some amazing things. Students (Grades 6, 7, 8), not just doing basic coding, but using AI features with App inventor and Machine Learning for kids, automated house creation using Minecraft coding, 3D printing models created in Fusion360, electronic circuit design using arduinos and raspberry pis and online with tinkercad circuits, games development and much more. No one can argue that these are not real world experiences and practical skills.
The problem is access, or shall I just say money? Not all software education licenses are free (or cheap), neither are hundreds of arduinos, raspberry pis along with all their components. Teachers can work miracles with little or no money. But practical skills and real world examples on a shoe string aren't always possible. In the best of times, schools struggle with budgets even in the richest countries.
What would help is technology being more affordable (software and hardware), governments/education districts allowing teachers to be more free to teach in the way they know how, and allowing initiatives that reach beyond the classroom. Many already do, but they cost....
Sorry if this sounded like a rant :P

Traditional classroom education is definitely not enough when it comes to preparing for living on your own, dealing with everyday tasks and managing being independent. They don't teach you actual, useful skills. Only then, when you move out of your sweet family home you realize you are actually not prepared for anything. Not even mentioning managing finances etc.

In my view, as someone in education, traditional classrooms build core knowledge and critical thinking, but to tackle real-world intricacies, a mix of practical skills and experiences is vital. This equips students with adaptability, diverse perspectives, and career readiness.
Definitely not enough! With all the new skills, tools, and jobs that appear everyday, the best thing schools can do is teach you how to learn yourself. If you get stuck and stop learning at all, you'll fall by the wayside in a couple of years or even faster
Definitely should. Theoretical training is certainly necessary, but there is not enough practice in school and university education and there should be more of it.
This is exactly what we need in the education space! Learning doesn't stop at the classroom door, and this platform seems like a game-changer for fostering continuous learning and growth. Excited to see how it evolves!

@zain_alam2 This is our mission! At KoThinker, we have a co-learning platform for product managers who wish to build impactful products and teams faster while having fun. It nudges you to experiment on the job with the skills you acquire from sharing failure stories, gaining situational feedback, and exchanging best practices.
And also while there are trainings for adults, they're usually attended for three intensive days once a year. It's like looking for abs after one workout :)
We need continuous learning and actually putting the learnings into practice!

I think both are extremely important. Through traditional classroom education, we not only learn the material but other life skills that are important. For example, we learn how to stay focused for long periods of time, we learn to listen, we learn how to analyze and understand large texts, and so on. These are great skills to have, however, they fall short because they are not paired with practical skills and real-world experiences.
Learning in a traditional classroom has its limitations. It would make sense to have more practical knowledge and expertise. While some schools are making progress in this direction, more can be done.
@jgarcia79s agree with you
Traditional classroom education and real-world experiences both play crucial roles in preparing students for the real world. Classroom education offers a structured foundation of knowledge, teaches you critical thinking, and helps with social interactions, while practical skills and experiences allow people to apply knowledge, develop adaptability, and enhance career readiness.
Schools should focus on creating a holistic curricula, building assessments that focus on practical applications of the learnings.
@mani_abod It's my opinion improving yourself and learning, regardless if it is tied to a paper degree or not, is crucial and essential.
I'll go even a step further and say if you are not pushing yourself to continuously learn new skills you are setting yourself up for failure.
Embracing continuous learning is a great way to prepare and position yourself for opportunities that come your way.
The fact is that 99.9% of what is taught in the classroom is easily accessible through multiple mediums and practical skills and real-world experience is not says it all.
I have actually been working on a Study App whose focus is to help students and continuous learners change the old learning style of mastery through memorization and focus more on mastery through a foundational understanding of the subject so I am glad you brought up this question.
@mani_abod anytime. I really like your focus on education topics. Feel free to reach out for my opinion at any time.
Classroom education alone is not sufficient; more practice is necessary.

We can learn more in our free space. Connecting with nature for creativity and youtube for exploring things that interest us. Curious how time will evolve everyone!!
In the realities of the present time, additional education is necessary.
Школа это только база. Практические навыки в современном мире можно получить только за пределами класса.
Classrooms are important, besides getting the basic knowledge people also learn how to socialize. But the thing is it's usually sort of a self-regulating area. Adults don't (or maybe even can't) understand the kids, every class is a small society on its own. Children have to test the ground and see who they are. I think with proper guidance the process would be less painful. It would also be possible to introduce the real life lessons, to prepare people for the life after school. And teach them they should never stop learning, that school is just one of the stages.
