Does a company's commitment to giving back to the community matter to you when making a purchase?

I think it's working another way – if a company has a reputation for exploiting their workers, or I know that they are not fair towards the community, I don't want to buy from them. For example, I look forward to buy second-hand Apple equipment and not directly from them because of their reputation of running sweatshops in China. They don't necessarily have to do anything specific in my opinion as long as they are treating their shareholders fairly.
