  • Do you think Twitter will survive?

If you didn't see, last night, a lot of Twitter employees chose resignation over committing to Twitter 2.0, Musk's grand vision for a brand new Twitter. Some have started saying Twitter will last maybe a week and there are reports that the offices have been abruptly closed. Do you think Twitter can survive? Personally, I think it will, it will be buggy for a while and the World Cup is going to be wild on it, but ultimately I see it lasting.

It's really too soon to tell because all Musk has really done so far is trimmed the staff down to a "hard core" and talked about ditching advertising, switching to a subscription revenue model, charging for a verified badge (not even verification), and launching x.com as the everything app. Twitter as we knew it is already dead, but what it will turn in to hasn't yet been defined.

It'll always be there for people looking to waste their time.

Anybody interested in building a Twitter alternative?

@3raxton man, you're like 5 years too late, Mastodon.

@michael_lebeau nah, a Mastodon alternative can survive

@3raxton you sure will have to add a ton of value then

Twitter will definitely survive. It might be a little rocky for a while, but it will eventually stabilize. It's not going anywhere at all.

@usamaejaz Agree entirely! I could see maybe some data leaks and thus some fines in the worst case as some services start crashing but it will survive and get through a very weird period

Will not die instantaneously as some are projecting it to. Unless the mercurial CEO decides to kill it himself for some reason. Employees leaving Twitter will not kill it, or any other company. There are thousands of skilled (and average) developers who would rush to join Twitter at the drop of a hat, if and when Twitter hires due to the "mass resignation" of the current employees. However, it's relevance or USP MIGHT be affected because of decisions like getting verified badges by paying, and the rumored longer character limit. Unless Mr. Musk decides to unroll them. In any case, Elon Musk seems to be rattled by having to buy it half-heartedly. It seems he was having lots of fun taking digs at Twitter before jokingly throwing a deal at them which he did not expect Twitter to accept. He tried to wriggle out but had to buy. And it turns out to be an expensive buy. Now he has to make drastic, some even bewildering, changes to cut his losses. Can't blame him for it. Or maybe we can :) P.S. Not a Twitter (or any social media) user, so won't be affected. Just watching things unravel in amusement.

Given that Ellon musk has co-founded PayPal, Tesla, and Space X. I am quit optimistic XD But let's see... If it dies we can all meet in the WBE Space
    It’s total chaos though!

It'll go in the same place as MySpace and Tumblr ... Nowhere

A bit late to the discussion here, but Elon Musk demonstrates the limitations of transferable knowledge — AKA the Mike Ashley syndrome. So who's Mike Ashley? He's a British billionaire retail entrepreneur who bought Newcastle United without the slightest understanding of what it takes to run a big established football club, and manage the expectations of a fervent global fan base — sound familiar?

Yes of course it's going to survive out there. Initially, it looks dirty but it's going to be there forever because everyone is using Twitter out there and after all Elon Musk is always known for comebacks. He's a great entrepreneur!

With a recession at hand, Musk's desire to listen to his Twitter followers, and his ability to take significant risks, I had expected these actions. Instead of getting caught up in the media circus, look at his successful track record before you sub come to certain assumptions. I believe Twitter will reach new heights under Elon's guidance. What we now see is the aftermath of a media craze that is desperate for clickbait. Real entrepreneurs create more with less.

It will because a lot of people invested a lot of time, but lens is the future for sure.

Elon Musk will manage, he's a great entrepreneur! (And we won't be able to know how, not everyone is a Musk;)

I think Twitter will continue to grow due to its unique market demand.

The problem of fake news is going to drown every social media app until someone solves it.

It surely will survive. The rebuild will be slow and very chaotic but it will be back in a few years time.

It's all going to be fine.

Such drama! Twitter's not going anywhere.

@rrhoover Exactly what I think, although I'd be lying if I said I don't love the chaos on my TL and I might spur it on for the fun

@rrhoover It’s telling that the only good place to talk about Twitter is Twitter. They’ll be hurting for a while, but it’ll be fine long term
