  • ๐Ÿ€Do you plan to hunt your own product or you are going with hunter?

I recently discovered that unlike followers of makers, followers of hunters don't receive notifications when a product is launched. I'm curious to know why someone might choose to have a hunter hunting their product?

So hunter's followers don't get notified? Well then unless the hunter's really involved or really believes in your project - it will make no difference. But I too would love to hear the community experience.

Based on my 7 launches, a launch with hunter always performs better than leading with one of the makers.

"Followers of hunters do not receive notifications when a product is launched." - I did not know this. In that case, it is a very valid question. If there are no notifications, what other benefits do people get when their product is posted by a hunter? When I check out a product, I usually don't pay attention to who submitted it. I just look at the story of the maker/author/founder.
@daniel_sudhindaran1 I was also surprised when I realized, at least that's what happened with my notifications ๐Ÿค”

Going with a hunter for my upcoming launch. Will definitely tell you what difference it is going to make for us.

I will try to go with a hunter with my next launch, I think that is a better way to reach people!

Hopefully the hunter also puts in an effort to share your product on their channels if they are willing to hunt your product for PH. If not then there is probably more flexibility in hunting your product.

It depends on how big is the product or release. If its a small free tool I prefer to hunt it myself. If it's something I really want to get most eyeballs on I would recommend a Hunter. But having a Hunter does makes a huge difference.
@tarunpaliwal So having a hunter ultimately gives you more recognition?

@sandradjajic In a way you humanly cannot outreach as many folks as with 1k followers as mch as a 10k+ follower can notify its followers. It just saves you time. You could do that eventually but maybe at the early stage it makes sense to get a helping hand who have spent more time than us on PH.

We're going with a hunter this time, to get as much reach and visibility as we possibly can!

This question is being asked very often in the forum. Hunters don't do much anymore, and they charge exorbitantly for various services (often under the guise of "Buy me a coffee!" which leads to expensive consultations). Also, they don't know your product like you do. On top of it all, they're often oversubscribed and don't give your emails, concerns, product, and launch the attention it deserves, and are loathe to spread the word about your launch to their networks, as they do not want to spam others and lose followers themselves. Product Hunt actually no longer recommends hunters, as nearly 80% of successful launches were self-launched. Follow the breadcrumb here to the longer article: https://www.producthunt.com/ques...
@chitterz Thanks for linking the article Leena, I'll check it out! I was very curious why people decide to go with the hunter ๐Ÿค”

For those planning their launch, here's some advice: Hunt yourself versus orchestrating the hunt via a hunter. If you wish to really leverage the role of the hunter, get a hunter that offers at least one or more of these: โ€” Product Feedback โ€” Novel Launch Tips โ€” Shares launch on their social and community โ€” Makes a genuine endorsement of the product in a category they have some expertise in There's no guarantee of the notifications. Especially from accounts of those hunters who are hunting hundreds of products. Most likely when Hunters hunt, an in-app notification is triggered. However, if the Hunter creates a Discussion Post then the notifications are sent to their followers via email. They can mention the product link in the Discussion Post. Hope this helps. :)

@olenabomko I see. So essentially if they are a consultant already or you hire them for mktg or a supporter of your product with some other affiliation, is how it will work. Tricky there! Given PH support is supposed to be all friendly and goodwill based.
@olenabomko Oh really? Once they launch some product? ๐Ÿค”

@olenabomko @sandradjajic I get notifications from hunters, but only in Product Hunt, not email

hey sis, often, choosing a hunter is about leveraging reach and credibility. a well-known hunter brings along an audience that trusts their finds, instantly giving your product a seal of approval and wider visibility. itโ€™s not merely about notifications but also tapping into established credibility and network effects. yet, hunting your product allows for controlled storytelling and direct engagement. both paths have merits, always weigh them against your product's unique needs. cheers, K.
@shajedulkarim_ thank you for the reply Shajedul, I understand! Hunters may have bigger trust in the community, that's a fair point! :)

@shajedulkarim_ @sandradjajic yes, sometimes I think, hmmm He/She hunted, so that means it's an interesting product. But I often see the hunter description like "I can hunt your product, buy me coffee or let's discuss the payment" and I understand that they can hunt only for money, and so that finally I hunted my product myself
@shajedulkarim_ @anna_kasumova So it's all a little bit tricky ๐Ÿค” I guess if you want to have these benefits that go with having a hunter you have to make sure to pick a right one

    why not through?

@sandradjajic i think that people can set up notification, mostly PH send it through email. Maybe not much people aware of that.
    Pam K.
Based on my experience on PH so far, I'm more likely to be interested in a product launched by the maker than the hunter.
@silisolutionist Why is that Pam? Just curious ๐Ÿ˜Š
    Pam K.
@sandradjajic It's about connecting with the product which, for me, happens when I can associate the founder/maker with the product. Pros and cons.

I'm hunting my own product. mDash, my AI-powered project management tool built specifically for web development, is launching to open beta here on PH soon, and I'm super proud to say that myself and my team are doing it all ourselves for our first ever launch! If anyone is interested in mDash or would like to support our launch, I encourage you to please check out our Coming Soon page!
