Asking for advice: Experience with waitlists pre-launch

So in theory, having a waitlist options before launching a product can have some benefits (better engagement, finding the most loyal users, assesing potential prematurely and more).
But is that the case even if we do not want to disclose product details prematurely, for competitive reasons?
What are your thoughts on this and if anyone has experience in such cases?
Much appreciated 🙌

If there is a competition, it can validate your product idea. Building in public has been a trend lately, and it definitely helps you build your early users.

@imtiyaz922 That's definitely true, the state of competition tells a story. It's probably a good call to build in public to build hype, although that is relevant for those ideas that are require a bigger team to build. Something that is in essence "basic" and easy to snatch is probably a bad idea to display publicly.
+ if you spotted such an example in the wild, what did you like about it? 😁
