1. Invest time in understanding your target audience π₯
Sorry, but to succeed, you have to talk with your potential customers.
You need to understand their context, motivation, pains, and barriers to buy. Always remember that you can't know better what they need.
2. Double down on distribution π
Don't try to write the best article on the Internet. Instead, write a good enough article that will be seen by thousands of people and will result in multiple purchases of your product. This is a big difference.
3. Always experiment πͺ
The digital world is a very fast-changing environment. New marketing opportunities and trends appear daily.
If you stick to 1 channel that works for you, then you can lose everything in one day. Twitter algorithms can change, TikTok can be banned in country X, and Instagram can create new promo rules. That's life.
4. Grow your personal brand π§²
This tip is extremely important for solopreneurs. A personal brand helps to raise awareness and does marketing for you. But be prepared: it takes time and requires consistent efforts.
5. Focus on quick wins π
One goal can be achieved in different ways.
π You can get 100 visitors by spending 12 months on SEO.
π You can get 100 visitors by writing one good tweet.
6. Avoid dark mode. #buildinpublic πΊ
Choose a platform (Twitter, Indie Hackers, Product Hunt discussions). Share your wins and loses, product updates and learnings.
7. Make a marketing planning π
Yeah, you probably have just left 9-5 job in a corporation. Deleted Zoom, Skype, Teams, Outlook, and Yammer.
You don't want to do the planning. But I highly recommend you to. Yes, I'm talking about planning marketing activities.

Two more options:
1. Offer free resources, such as ebooks, webinars, or tutorials, to attract potential customers and demonstrate your expertise in your field.
2. Network and build relationships with other businesses and influencers in your industry. Collaborating with others can help you reach a wider audience and gain credibility and exposure for your business.

Does #buildinpublic works for every type of product? say, B2B SaaS for example?
@harshtomar6 of course. There're a lot of creators who build b2b products in public

What are some of the go-to distribution channels? And among them, which one is the highest performing?
@basv, adding to @gaurav_verma10 question...what acquisition channel has worked out best for you (selling digital products)?
@gaurav_verma10 It all depends on your target audience. You need to understand on what platforms your potential users spend time.
@gaurav_verma10 @daniel_pirciu Product Hunt, Twitter, Indie Hackers, beta-list π
But as I said, it all depends on your audience

@basv your post is spot on!
Wanted to add my two cents. Going bottom up:
7. Marketing planning: Quit my job to go full time indie-making (in reality got rid of teams & zoom ! π). Fell behind on distribution planning for a while. Now course correcting with a monthly & weekly project plan.
6. Avoid dark mode. #buildinpublic: Still guilty of this one. Not sure when is the right time to start.
5. Focus on quick wins π
: A framework that I picked up earlier - Ship a V1. Iterate from there.
4. Grow personal brand: Started building trust capital a month back. By being active on PH & IH, sharing useful stuff on threads and giving value add feedback.
3. Always experiment: Agreed. But it comes with caveat for solopreneurs.
Limited bandwidth means you live by pareto principle - sticking to 1/ few channels that drive 80% impact.
2. Double down on distribution: Hands down the 2nd most imp tip.
Ties back to building trust capital with your target audience.
1. Invest time in understanding your target audience: Holy grail. Without actual customer context & verbiage, very slim chances of building a high perceived value.
