Hey folks,
This one is a year in the making.
We originally designed Robin for office-first work in a pandemic-free world. Today, this approach feels a little incomplete. The pandemic accelerated flexible work adoption by changing the relationship most people have with their office. Even if your office is open, you’re probably still reading this from home.
Workplace teams (a mix of IT,...

Good morning everyone!
Activity based work is an evolution of today’s (embattled) “open office”. Most offices have two modes of working, either you’re at your Official Desk ™ or in a meeting. Activity based work embraces the fact that sometimes the best place to clear your inbox is different than the place you brainstorm with your team. The office should encourage people to move around based...

Oh cool! This was not something I expected to see on here today.
Quick history lesson: Either dates back to 2009 when we made it for fun while in college. It gets rediscovered a couple times every year, which we only discover via "Servers are overloaded" notifications out of the blue. Originally we didn't expect anyone to use it outside our friends, but now about 650 million answers have been...

I've used this for the past week, and it's crazy helpful. Especially like how the auto-suggestions and personalities summary sentences make edits a no-brainer, since you don't have to think to revise.
...also amazed at how many of the people I email prefer short direct emails. Makes everyone's job easier.

This is super smart.
I was surprised how many people rely on phone presence indicators (many cubicle farms), but this takes advantage of line-of-sight you get in open offices.
Wish the SDK was a little more accessible -- personally we'd have a bunch of integration options for this with room indicators.

@big_dad_t Very cool approach. Have background response times (particularly for iOS) affected the types of interactions you're able to support? How do you see that developing over time?

@EAWharton Sure thing. Here's a few ranging from what people are buying today, to in-development. Hopefully they give a sense of where our head is at:
1. Auto-booking rooms. You enter a room with someone, stay for 30 seconds, and it books the calendar automatically. You leave early, it clears the availability.
2. With access to sensors you can search for "The quietest meeting room available"...

@ErikTberg The foundation for Robin started two and a half years ago out of a company (@onemightyroar) I founded with my twin brother. It started as a platform for events that paired RFID tags to your Facebook account, so as you walked around you could trigger different areas to change. We stopped doing that for three reasons:
1. RFID is very logistic heavy, especially in the event industry....

@_jacksmith Turns out the office is unique from other places because of the sheer density of computers and mobile devices. For the short term, we're supporting beacons and (for the more tech minded an open source base station OS for Raspberry Pi). The device that senses presence is not always the one that visualizes it.
Long term you could imagine using thin clients (Dell Cloud Connect) or...

@KristoferTM & @_jacksmith You're close. Happy to clarify -- it's a new area and we're still discovering what works best to reach that initial "aha" moment.
Robin is a software layer for office automation. You set up rooms in your office to look for presence (found via wearables or mobile apps), and can tie things like displays and calendars to those spaces. When people physically enter...
