KickIt beta version launch!
Hey all, Just wanted to share a quick story about KickIt and the motivation behind this effort! Several months back I was working on maintaining a mobile application. And we quickly noticed that many of our users were still using a pretty old version of the app. Despite out efforts to get them to download the latest, people were still reluctant to do so. I've heard before of the version management as a way to help mitigate some of the issues that may derive from having users sticking around with very old versions of a given application. Back then I thought about a simple mechanism where the app manager/developer could flag certain versions let the app know that the current version was out-of-date. This is how KickIt was born. I wanted to create a mechanism were developers could let users know that there were other available more recent versions of an app and even more interact with users in different ways! Today we're only starting this journey and would love for the ProductHunt community to be a part of it. Feel free to check the beta at: https://www.kickit.dev/?ref=prod... and let me know your feedback. Hey all, just wanted to share some news. This week we're launching KickIt beta, you have now three different plans you can choose from including a free basic one.
Have you ever dealt with old app versions you no longer want to support but user won't upgrade?
KickIt is a service that helps with just that. This is something I started to work on because I encountered myself in this very same situation. I needed a mechanism where I could tell users "hey there's a new version of this app, and this version will no longer be supported", but it was too late because the app we wanted to do this with didn't ship with such capability. We could reach out via email, or via push notifications but there was no guarantee that users will eventually upgrade. KickIt acts as a hidden door upgrade mechanism where you tell it which app versions are to be upgraded and that way any user running that will be prompted to upgrade. It can even block the user from using the app if needed. This is something particularly useful for new app makers like the ones here on ProductHunt because most likely at some point in the growth of the apps there will be a case where this is gonna be needed. A few scenarios are newer OS systems are incompatible with certain libraries used internally in the mobile app, or because there is a back-end system update that needs to happen which requires users to bump to the latest version of the apps. Whatever the case may be, it is better to be prepared when the time comes, and seems like it is almost in every case, the time will come. Makers/creators please give it a try, I'd be more than happy to get feedback and answer questions and hopefully work together to make KickIt the best it can be.
