Are discussions moderated first?
I wanted to ask a question of the community and posted a new discussion. It's been at least an hour and I don't see it showing up anywhere. Are posts moderated or something else I'm not aware of yet being new?
Are there downsides to launching on PH without a plan?
We built https://wildfire.so/ in response to a need we had for a project. It is not our primary focus but at the same time, we wanted to see if there is potential here without expending too many resources on it. I know from speaking with others that a successful Product Hunt launch involves a lot of planning but are there any downsides to launching without a plan?
Are the customer channels more important than the idea's unique value proposition?
Usually, we know the hurdles in our day-to-day tasks. And that is where most of the product ideas come to our mind. Then, our maker-brain starts thinking of a solution... a web app, a mobile app, a social group, and so on. We can often develop a small tool to solve that problem. But we don't stop there. We think of millions of others who may have the same problem and are (hopefully) searching for the solution. We should helo them too! So we build that product and launch it. But not a single customer from that millions bother to buy our product. Ooops, another failure! I believe having an excellent unique value proposition (UVP) in the project idea is often overrated. In contrast, the most crucial element for a successful product is your level of access to the customer channels! So, if you have an excellent idea (or even the product is ready!) but have no access to the customer channels, your product will die without anyone seeing it. Whereas, if you have good access to the relevant customer channels (say, an influencer in an ideal situation), your copied product may end up with more customers than the original one. Can you relate this with any of your successful or failed ideas? Please share your thoughts and experience.
