Totally ditto all the above comments. When trying to build a community and increase engagement you need to be authentic, don't be too sales, ask questions and more often than not be relatable - tell people your failures and problems and how you've overcome them. Talk about what you are into, how you spend your spare time, a little bit more personal info and this will attract your ideal...

I've tried using surveys before and find this only works with lots of money invested and the right questions...

Just go for it. What's the worst that can happen, just an ego bruising. Think instead, what's the best that can happen...
